Sometimes, you need to get out of your life for a few days. You might have a craving for the sun and the sea, or perhaps you want to clear your head at a spa. Perhaps you’re feeling wild and want to wander around a new city. Whatever your reasoning, a spontaneous getaway is what you need.
Spontaneous getaways are great for letting loose and having fun but, even when you’re going at short notice, you need to plan properly. The best spontaneous getaways are fairly cheap and give you a chance to let your hair down. But finding the balance can be quite tricky.
So here are a few tips to get you started.
Don’t Disparage the Package Holiday
The package holiday might not be the best way to experience the most ‘authentic’ aspect of a place but it is often a brilliant way to get a flight and a hotel on the cheap. If you are just looking to get away and relax, holidays that won’t break the bank don’t need to be much more than a place to stay, a pool to chill out in and some good food.
Resorts often have benefits as well. If you can go all-inclusive, you may well save money on food, leaving you a little bit extra to splash out on spa treatments and other nice things. If you are going with family, kids will really enjoy staying at a resort as they will have plenty to do and there will probably be other kids to play with too, leaving the grown-ups to relax.
Be Prepared to Slum It
If you want to get away but don’t have the money for a fancy holiday, you need to be prepared to slum it. Choosing a single room in a hostel is often cheaper than a hotel room and, if you aren’t planning to spend much time there, a bed is a bed at the end of the day! However, some hostels are definitely better than others so do your research to avoid picking a bad one!
What you eat can also save you a lot of money. While many people are too worried to eat street food, as long as you follow the locals and you can see your food while it is prepared, you will be totally fine.
Play Travel Roulette
Of course, the major cost of any getaway is the cost of travel. If you are flexible and willing to experiment, travel roulette is a lot of fun. The idea is that you choose your dates and then simply choose the cheapest destination. You might end up having an amazing budget trip to Singapore but equally, you could find yourself in a pub in London sipping a pint.
If you are willing to be flexible and spontaneous, you could have an amazing getaway like no other. Opening your mind to different options might just give you a chance to discover something new and that’s what travel is all about!
