Birthdays can be a little bit of a mixed bag
– you want to celebrate, see your friends and have the best day. But sometimes, as you get older, you’ll find that things don’t just magically happen to make the day special – you have to make it happen for yourself. Luckily, spoiling yourself generally comes naturally – and if it doesn’t, then you need to make up for lost time. You can make your day special and memorable – and just make the day that you want.
Communicate What You Want
Perhaps you have a certain plan in mind for your ideal day. It might involve seeing old friends, going out for a special meal, treating yourself to some shopping or a spa day, or even just chilling in your house with your pyjamas on, eating ice cream and watching some Netflix. However you want to spend your day, then make sure you tell people. Don’t expect a partner or your family and friends to be mind readers. That’s just setting yourself up for disappointment.Even if you don’t have an idea in mind, ask for opinions from loved ones for what you could do. Whether it’s buying a new dress, hiring a limo from a limo rental to sit and drink champagne in or even going to a spin class and brunch, just make sure it’s what you want to do.
Set Your Purpose
As an annual milestone, your birthday is a great chance to take stock and look back over the last year. What moments made you proud? What did you learn and improve on? How far have you come? Equally, it’s also a great time to set your purpose for the year – a new set of goals to aim for, that will guide you across the next year. Think about the big changes you’d like to see in your life before your next birthday. Would you like to start a family? Be working towards owning a house? Studying something new? Starting your own business? Think about the steps you have to take to realistically make that happen in your life. You don’t have to have achieved them all in a year’s time, but working towards them and being on track to really achieve something will definitely give your special day a huge boost.
Eat What You Love
If there’s one way to celebrate that will really warm your heart, it definitely has to include food. Making your own little food rituals can really make your day go with a bang. Whether it’s always starting your day off with pancakes, that glass of fizz that just says celebration to you, a little bit of your mother’s home cooking, or a fancy four course meal with wine to match, you should have a little of what you like on your big day. Especially if you try to be healthy and moderate most of the year – cut loose a little on your day and it will definitely feel like a celebration! With a little planning ahead, you can have your day just the way you like it, and enjoy welcoming in another year.
