The Christmas Market Weekend Getaway in ‘Dam #Amsterdam #Travel #CPtakes12trips #TravelReview

Take a Weekend Trip ahead of Christmas to Amsterdam –

There’s so much more to experience than Coffee Shops and the rest which you may have heard…

As most people settle into the cosiness of Christmas prepping and a winter state of mind, I still have this year’s #CPtakes12trips challenge to complete!

As you (should!) know, I gave myself a challenge at the beginning of 2016 to undertake a 12 trip challenge which meant going away, at least once a month. I am happy to announce that this ingenuous plan to hop over to Amsterdam for the weekend was number 11 in the challenge!

As my yearning to get in the Christmas spirit got louder and more or less uncomfortable to ignore, we headed to Amsterdam to catch up with a few local friends, check out some cool spots and of course visit a Christmas Market. What we didn’t factor in was how many we’d actually visit in 3 days.

Here is your guide to Christmas Markets in Amsterdam during the Winter…

STAY

And if you are wondering where to stay in Amsterdam, here are a few places I fell in love with…

Our Airbnb

This spacious apartment is right in near the centre of Amsterdam and just a tram away from Amsterdam Central Station. It belongs to a staff member of the bar below who is friendly (much like a friendly giant) who is always on call and does not mind smoking in the flat although smoking in bedrooms is a no no! The bedroom has an ensuite and the bed is super soft! After a few days though, this can begin to hurt a little.

The big bedroom with kingsize bed and big wardrobe is at the silent back of the apartment and connected to a large bathroom with walk-in shower and big bathtub with separate shower. The nice light living room in front of the apartment has an open kitchen with all the necessary equipment. The living room also has a comfortable sofa bed suited for two (adult) people, accommodating a total maximum of four people. As the flat is surrounded by clubs including the popular Jimmy Woo Club, sleeping in the living room (especially on weekends) can be noisy, but there is much pleasure to be had staying in the middle of a vibrant part of the city.

The Hoxton Amsterdam
Hipster Plush (p.s The image above is of their suite… try not to get too excited!)

The Generator Amsterdam
The nicest hostel you will EVER see!

EAT

As eating is pretty much necessary in Amsterdam, here are a few of my favourite spots!

PANCAKES
Situated directly opposite Amsterdam Central Station… Need I say more?

Amsterdam Cheese Company
If you love cheese, you have to go to this store and try as many as possible. You are guaranteed to leave with at least one amazing Dutch cheese bar! By the way, there are a few stores in Amsterdam so choose the closest to you.

Cannibale Royale
Initially described to me as a great place for Roasts, I discovered that Cannibale Royale is actually really great for burgers and a juicy steak/ Just don’t get left outside! Book a table a day in advance!

Albert Heijn
If you are staying in an Airbnb, this shop will save your life and your euros.

MOMO
Fancy with a little less pretentiousness than you’d expect!

Hope you’ve enjoyed this brief weekend review of Amsterdam – ‘The Christmas Market Weekend Getaway’ edition.

Looks so amazing! I was supposed to go to Germany for the Christmas markets, but I had a change of plans sadly!
